Local Area Network Design Project

This post will be useful for my COM52 and ECE47L students since I'm assigning both classes to accomplish the same project. But that is not to put a limitation to your output. I mean:

5th year students, don't ever let your work be any less excellent than what the younger batch can produce. This should be much easy for you since you’ve already accomplished some designs last semester. And

4th year students, it's no excuse that you're the younger batch. It's to your advantage that you are technically more youthful therefore more creative ^_^

Here's the instructions:
1. Design requirements were already assigned per group in one of our previous meetings.

2. Presentation date is October 6 or 13. Sequence will be drafted soon.

3. Your proposal is considered complete only if the following are submitted/performed:
 Documents placed in a clearbook
 Soft copy of documents and presentation (ppt, html, etc) in a CD
 Presentation/defense with a panelist. I will be the one assigning the panelist.
 Smart casual attire during the presentation

4. Documentation format:
 INTRODUCTION (Objectives, Scope, Delimitations, System Description)
 DESIGN CONSIDERATIONS
 NETWORK PLAN and LAYOUTS (Floor plan, Network Diagram, Router port distribution, Access network distribution, Cable Layout, IP Address Table, etc) ***The goal is to make your proposal as detailed as possible so you'll be prepared for the defense.
 MATERIALS/EQUIPMENT
 COMPUTATIONS (esp. ROR and ROI)

5. Layouts need not be printed in Tracing paper.

I’m also sharing you the copy of the LAN DESIGN Proposal (document password is jonaiece)that my group back in 2009 accomplished so you have just an idea. Looking at it, there are so many aspects (formats, layouts, details, etc) with which it can be made better. So make sure you do your design much better than this, OK?!

For questions, you may comment to this post. See you on the 1st of Sept ;-)

***Please note that I use Google docs to host the file and so you may be prompted by Google to sign in to Docs. You can use your existing Gmail account since that’s universal in Google world. But if you have no existing Google account, then you have to sign up for an account. Thanks!***
